The idea behind the whimsical Living Rose character was inspired by Olga’s grandmother and her beautiful garden. Olga, like her grandmother, has always loved flowers and when she serendipitously came upon 18-inch foam flowers at a decoration store, she almost immediately saw the design in her head. She imagined the now iconic Kikimora rose headpiece made from four roses and two roses as the hands. She also imagined the dress that would represent the vase and the thorns, as well as pearl accessories, representing water droplets.

Intentionally made monochromatic white, the first Living Rose character embodied a statue made out of white stone, that still magically swayed in the wind. Olga immediately knew it was very unique because previous depictions of roses were always made with a green body and colorful flowers. She was so enamored with this new idea, that it took her just three days to make the prototype of the first Living Rose in white. Later, she made a red Living Rose, peach-colored Living Roses, and bright pink Living Roses as well, with plans to make them in other colors in the future.

With her previous experience of making costumes for her performances, Olga found it a joy to bring this idea to life. She used wire, fabric, and foam in the construction for this costume. The idea to cover the face with lace fabric was also intentional. Olga wanted the Living Rose to look the most closely to its form, which is no human face, just the hypnotic structure of petals that pulls the viewer into the natural beauty.

The Living Rose character performance is a work of art that is highly spiritual and uplifting.
